YOUR HOST & MASTER GUIDE ROGER BLIGH

Roger Bligh is your host at Newton Cove Lodge. Roger travelled extensively throughout Vancouver Island as a marketing specialist before deciding that Nootka Sound, and Eperanza Inlet were the closest places to paradise he could find. Roger is also recognized as one of the best guides in the area, with superior knowledge of where to locate fish and how to catch them. Roger has spent a lifetime pursuing his all consuming angling passions. Born and raised in British Columbia, Roger has extensively fished rivers, lakes and the ocean throughout the Province for more than 40 years!!

Mastering the challenging skills of stillwater fishing in the interior, fighting steelhead on the Skeena to the Charlottes, the rivers of Vancouver Island, the famous Thompson, and the many Fraser Valley river systems, Roger has travelled the entire Coast and Islands chasing salmon and utilizing many saltwater techniques. There are not many lakes and rivers around the Province that Roger doesn't have a "big" story from and his "fish tales" are eagerly requested year after year. He has actively kept over 35 years of diaries fishing the Thompson which now recount an accurate historical perspective of a sport fishery that sadly no longer exists. A passionate advocate for good fisheries management Roger has committed and dedicated the better part of the last fifty years to actively participating in stewardship programs and supporting good fisheries, stream and estuary management.

Twenty years ago Roger discovered Nootka Sound and soon recognized the great potential in a relatively untouched environment, offering a vast variety of fishing opportunities. Many of these, Roger pioneered, being the first to develop a fishing lodge in Esperanza Inlet, all the time being told by many "it will never succeed because of it's remoteness"!! Undaunted, Roger followed his dream and soon others followed. He now proudly invites you to come and share it with him.
